Zebra mussels were discovered on the GLEON buoy on Monday, October 8, 2012
Zebra mussels were discovered on the GLEON buoy during the winter removal this past week. A dozen or so were sent to Dr. Edwin M. Wong, Associate Professor of Molecular Biology, Dept. of Biological & Environmental Sciences, at Western Connecticut State University for study. Brian Woods of FirstLight Power has reported finding them also. Please check your boats and docks when you take them out for the winter, and send us an email (.(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) with any findings. Also, please note that you may see "a couple of guys poking along the shoreline in dry suits and chest waders... fighting the good fight!", checking for zebra mussels. We will keep you posted when we learn more. read more...
