Close

This is the current water level of Lake Lillinonah. Our safety indicator should be used as a guideline only; higher lake elevations cause more floating debris. Always use caution and watch out for floating debris when navigating Lake Lillinonah.

Safest: below 194'
Debris presence unlikely - safe for recreational use.

Caution: 194' to 195'
Debris possibly present - caution advised.

Important Announcement From Northeast Generation

Posted: October 14, 2005 in General

Based on current river conditions, weather patterns, rain forecasts, and flow projections from the National Weather Service, I have put together the following table (cfs is cubic feet per second, all flows are shown in cfs):

Location Current Inflow Saturday Noon Projection
Lillinonah 8,000 12,700
Zoar 8,100 14,500
Note that the projected inflow is such that we will be able to begin to refill Lake Lillinonah from the current elevation of 186 feet CL&P datum immediately. It should take about one day to return the water surface elevation to 190 feet, however, we plan on continuing refilling operations over the weekend. The expected increase in rainfall over the weekend will enable us to refill the lake that much faster. The coincidental timing of the heavy rains with resulting reservoir operations and the requests for annual maintenance drawdowns for Lakes Lillinonah and Zoar has created a need to alter our plans for drawdowns. The responsibility for safe operations is NGC's, therefore, we will continue to operate to best control the inflow and discharges at our hydroelectric developments until we are certain that we can provide drawdown services for the lakes in a safe and reasonable manner. Therefore, I have decided to delay the drawdowns by one week for Lakes Lillinonah and Zoar. The new schedule will be as follows, unless weather conditions and abnormal river flows are such that NGC would need to take alternative courses of action: Lake Lillinonah - The drawdown will begin at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 21st, with the lake reaching elevation 190.0 feet, CL&P datum, sometime on Saturday, most likely before noon. We plan to refill the lake on Sunday, October 30th beginning in the evening around 6:00 p.m. Lake Zoar - The drawdown will begin at approximately 9:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28th, with the lake reaching elevation 98.0 feet, CL&P datum, sometime on Saturday, most likely before noon. We plan to refill the lake on Sunday, November 6th beginning in the evening around 6:00 p.m. I am requesting that the Lake Authorities make contact with the lakefront property owners to notify them of the change in schedules. If you have any questions or concerns, please get back to me right away. Thank you. Bob Gates - Northeast Generation
