GMS Rowing Center has been selected as aUSRowing Training Center Partner
GMS Rowing Center is pleased to announce its affiliation with the new USRowing Training Center Partner Program. The program creates partnerships with clubs across the country that have a strong desire to collaborate on the development of athletes who will represent the United States internationally. Partner programs will place an emphasis on training athletes in small boat development and incorporating athletes in Senior and U23 camps and trials. In 2010 the GMS Elite training programs qualified 20 athletes for their respective national teams; in 2009 the GMS programs qualified 17 athletes, which include Junior (high school), Under 23s, and the Senior National Team.
“We believe this can be a good step forward in streamlining our pipeline of athletes and coaches who aspire to be or work with national team athletes,” said USRowing High Performance Director Matt Imes. “We look forward to making a significant contribution in the development of athletes for the US National Team especially in small boats” says GMS Technical Director Guenter Beutter. Currently 18 athletes belong to the GMS High Performance Sculling (HPS) program and either live in New Milford or train remotely attending regular assessment evaluations.
GMS also has a highly competitive Junior (High School) program where athletes over recent years have represented the United States in International competition and many have been awarded scholarships to colleges of their choice. Students attend from the immediate vicinity and also from a wider area taking in Ridgefield, Oxford and New Preston.
GMS Rowing Center is located at New Milford, CT and enjoys some of the best rowing water in the Northeast. It offers rowing programs for all ages from high school (Grades 8 through 12), college students to adults. It has programs ranging from learn-to-row through to experienced competitive athletes.
