Caution : 194.3' | What is this?
This is the current water level of Lake Lillinonah. Our safety indicator should be used as a guideline only; higher lake elevations cause more floating debris. Always use caution and watch out for floating debris when navigating Lake Lillinonah.
Safest: below 194'
Debris presence unlikely - safe for recreational use.
Caution: 194' to 195'
Debris possibly present - caution advised.
Use Extreme Caution: above 195'
Debris likely present - dangerous.

Dear FOTL member: As you know FOTL has been an active stakeholder in the Shoreline Management Program (SMP) for the past six months. One of the largest discrepancy and concerns shared by both LLA and FOTL is the ability FERC has granted NGS in raising the operating range of the reservoir. FOTL believes this can and will cause serious shoreline damage and has the potential for increased erosion. All of the shorelines will be affected by this change in operation. Ironically, FOTL has been notified that Northeast Generation Services has decided to "raise the lake level above 198.5 starting on Sunday and finishing on Tuesday." We have learned that they may go as high as 199.4. The purpose is because of the extreme cold forecasted and the anticipated huge demand for electricity. This is an opportunity for all of us to observe, document and measure these water levels. These are NGS #'s, so 198.5 - 1.7 = 196.8 NGVD (above sea level); 199.4 - 1.7 = 197.7 NGVD. We should observe the lake with water clearly over its banks (196 Max). It will be good to take pictures of all structures impacted by this water level as well as wooded areas. It will be interesting to observe how the ice forms and if any damage occurs. Please forward this data to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
