Friends of the LakePosted: June 17, 2006 in General
Thanks to the efforts of all the volunteers and sponsors, this year’s Friends of the Lake Save the Lake Day was a great success! We had an excellent turnout of over 100 volunteers (despite the uncertainty of the weather) who collected enough garbage to fill two 20 yard dumpsters and one 15 yard dumpster. The usual bait boxes, cans, food bags, bottles, etc. were collected as well as a dishwasher and a barbeque grill! We also collected over 40 tires this year, down from the 76 last year. We had a record turnout of boats this year (9 pontoon boats alone!). Our deepest appreciation and thanks goes to all of you who volunteered your boats! We couldn’t do it without you. Our local sponsors were very generous and we thank them for their ongoing support. Please make an effort to patronize the local sponsors who supported our efforts this year and thank them for being a supporter of Friends of the Lake. A list of our sponsors is listed below for your reference. Northeast Generation, the Lake Lillinonah Authority, FlagStar Mortgage, Newtown VFW Post 308, All American Refuse (Brookfield), Wal-Mart (New Milford), Costco, Stew Leonard’s, Big Y (New Milford), Stop & Shop (New Milford), Outback Steakhouse (Danbury), Dunkin Donuts (New Milford), Dunkin Donuts (Brookfield Four Corners), UPS Store (Brookfield), Dominos Pizza (New Milford), Bagel Delight (Newtown), ShopRite (Brookfield), and the Housatonic Valley Association. Congratulations to Ava Hornbeck and Brianna Goldstein for winning the Northeast Generation Name the Skimmer: Lilli-Zoarus Rex. Each winner was presented with $500 savings bonds. Our sincerest thank you goes out to everyone who braved the weather and came out and gave their time to this event. It was an incredible success! We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
