Zebra mussels were discovered on the GLEON buoy during the winter removal this past week. A dozen or so were sent to Dr. Edwin M. Wong, Associate Professor of Molecular Biology, Dept. of Biological & Environmental Sciences, at Western Connecticut State University for study. Brian Woods of FirstLight Power has reported finding them also.
Also, please note that you may see “a couple of guys poking along the shoreline in dry suits and chest waders… fighting the good fight!”, checking for zebra mussels.
We will keep you posted when we learn more.
